Bay View Farm Looe

Touring the UK in a caravan is bound to give the tourers involved a rich and varied experience. The lists of top ten camp sites for this and that abound. It is great when everything comes together, a site with 5 star facilities, fantastic views, friendly fellow campers and marvellous weather. In truth it doesn’t happen all that often but with a carefully prepared plan aided by thorough research getting the best combination to suit the area you are in can be achieved.

Bay View Farm, at Looe, in Cornwall, will never get in a top ten review list for facilities. For views it is probably in the top three of everyone who has ever stopped there. The camp is situated, like many in Cornwall, down a twisty narrow lane. Concentration after a long journey is difficult but assured going down this lane, it is also a comfort to know you have caravan insurance. The last few steps of a weary journey are all worthwhile when turning into the camp. The views across Looe Bay are breathtaking and the name of the camp although accurate does not do it justice.

The camp itself is small. A mixture of statics, tents and touring caravans all strewn across a small field without any regular shape is standard, and there are no hard standing plots for tourer caravans. The statics are placed on gravel plots and look quite tidy. There are two toilet and shower blocks with electric showers that are basic but manageable, a dishwashing area and a laundry room with coin operated appliances. There is no shop, no pub and no entertainment, not in the normal sense anyway. The site is home to a group of award winning shire horses that are magnificent to behold and feature at shows around the South West.

The real attraction of the site apart from the magnificent views is its proximity to the South West Coastal Path, which runs past the site and its proximity to such delightful places as Polperro and Looe.

A visit to Polperro is a must if one is visiting the area for just the single time. The village is still as it was generations ago and is probably the only true example of  a Cornish fishing village from times gone by. Visit Looe as well. Look down the river to the harbour from the bridge and see the reflections of the highly coloured houses in the harbour water, a memorable sight.

The tariffs at Bay View Farm reflect the lack of amenities and are good value at £20 a night in high season down to £10 a night in low. The cost covers two adults and two children. An electric hook up is £3 a day extra.
