Well here we are again putting in the final preparations for the next big motorhome, caravan and camping show. This will be the fourth show that Lifesure have exhibited at but the first at Excel London so we are expecting customers from the southeast to come out in force. The previous three shows we attended were at the NEC Birmingham and although national exhibitions we have found that many of the visitors were relatively local to the midlands.
The video below was created at the NEC Motorhome, Caravan and Camping Show in 2011 and gives you a good idea of what is in store for visitors!

The shows have been a great success for Lifesure, as a result our stand size has been increasing, the stand design has improved and even more freebies are being handed out to the public. Our staff for the show are hand-picked Lifesure customer service employees, who will enjoy a brief change of scene and the opportunity to chat with customers face to face rather than on the telephone.
As usual, we will be offering a daily prize draw to customers willing to enter by simply filling in a short form with details of their caravan or motorhome. The daily prize is to win free insurance for your caravan or motorhome for a whole year, to commence from your next renewal date if already insured. Since we started attending these shows Lifesure has given away eighteen free annual insurance policies, as well as key rings, toys, sweets and ever handy bottle openers. Free insurance quotes for caravans and motorhomes are available to all as well as expert advice from our friendly staff.

We look forward to seeing you at our stand, N67 near the atrium. Enjoy the show!

The Advertising Standards Agency has announced that it is upholding complaints made about the legitimacy of a number of reviews published on TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor had been advertising itself as providing reliable reviews, a claim which has been disputed as the reviews are not verified.

Online reputation management firm, Kwikchex, along with two hotel firms, had raised complaints with the ASA over TripAdvisor’s claims of “reviews you can trust”, “read reviews from real travellers”, “TripAdvisor offers trusted advice from real travellers” and “more than 50 million honest travel reviews and opinions from real travellers around the world”. The complaint was made as the website had no way of verifying how genuine the user-generated entries actually were. The ASA has now forbidden the use of such claims in Trip Advisor’s advertising.

Co-founder of Kwikchex, Chris Emmins, is pleased with the ASA’s decision. “We did this because we think that the greatest impact is very much on small businesses, they have only a few reviews; it is not as if there are loads of them on there. And particularly when it comes to unsubstantiated food poisoning and other elements like that, they are absolutely devastating.”

However, TripAdvisor themselves are unhappy with the ruling. “The ASA has taken a highly technical view around some marketing copy that was used in a limited capacity. We have confidence that the 50 million users who come to our site every month trust the reviews they read on TripAdvisor. We feel the ruling is unrealistic in its expectation of sites like ours. The ASA upheld the complaints on the basis that we could not provide 100% certainty that every single review on the site was written by a real traveller and could be trusted. No system, verified or not, could provide this.

“We completely stand by our independently endorsed review integrity processes, and we know our users trust TripAdvisor because they understand that the sheer volume of reviews allows them to get the complete picture of a property and make an educated decision based on the opinions of many before they book.”

Organised by former star cricketer, Sir Ian Botham, the aim of the event is to raise money to fund research into these blood cancers.

Sir Ian Botham himself is taking part in the walk, planning to complete the one hundred and fifty mile journey on foot over ten days. Yorkshire based Swift Caravans have teamed up with the Caravan Club to provide a very useful form of sponsorship for the sporting legend; the provision of a motorhome from Swift’s AutoCruise Alto range for the duration of the walk. Sir Ian Botham will use the motorhome as accommodation as he travels through ten major UK cities. London, Cambridge, Norwich, Cardiff, Birmingham, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow will all receive a visit from Beefy himself as he treks between the extremities of the island.

Sir Ian Botham has expressed his gratitude to both Swift Caravans and The Caravan Club, saying “On behalf of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, I would like to thank Swift Group for their continued support, as we enter our twenty eighth year of Beefy’s Great British Walk. I will not stop walking until every child with blood cancer survives, and the provision of a support vehicle for the walk, plus The Caravan Club’s dedication and support throughout the year, is very much appreciated.” Advance sponsorship of over £22,000 has already been pledged in the run up to the Great British Walk

Former Chief Executive of JC Flowers’ London-based business, Ravi Sinha, has been banned from working in the City and fined £2.9 million by the Financial Services Authority after dishonestly raising £1.4 million to pay off his personal debts.

Although he was in receipt of a salary of £886,000 and received bonuses of approximately £1.3 million, Ravi Sinha fell foul of the global economic crisis and found himself in a large amount of debt. In order to pay off these debts, Sinha resorted to invoicing a fictitious client who was supposedly advised by his employers, JC Flowers. Sinha, who was only discharged from bankruptcy in August 2011, is now expected to plunge back into that state after his fraudulent activity was uncovered.

The Financial Services Authority’s acting Director of Enforcement and Financial Crime, Tracey McDermott, has explained the reasoning behind the ban. “Sinha exploited his position of trust as CEO to fraudulently obtain significant sums for his personal benefit. He engaged in a dishonest, deliberate and sustained course of misconduct which lasted for several months. Such behaviour has no place in the financial services industry. Mr Sinha engaged in this dishonest behaviour in order to obtain additional income to meet his pressing financial obligations,”

Sinha himself has issued an apology to his former employers regarding the matter: “I very much regret misleading JC Flowers over this issue and continue to offer my sincerest apologies to all those concerned. It was a foolish action which I completely regret, particularly in terms of the effect that it has had on my family. I will bear the consequences of my own actions long into the future.”

The Toyota GT2000 was the car that proved that Japanese supercars could exist. Even James Bond got in on the act with one of the classics featured in “You Only Live Twice”. In other words, the car was right up there with the DB9s and Vanquishes when it came to being cool enough for the slickest spy of all time.

So cool, in fact, that the cost of this car is generally more than the average house in Boston would set you back. Last year, one model sold for a whopping $650,000. The GT2000 was manufactured in the late 1960s, which invites the question of why the car is relevant over forty years later. Well, it’s relevant purely because a Japanese team have converted a retro 1967 model into an electric, solar-powered vehicle.

Earlier this year, the Toyota Automobile Association announced a “Crazy Car Project”. The aim of this project was to overhaul an old favourite in order to create some excitement around new drive systems. With a target of creating a solar-powered electric car which could reach a speed of 125 miles per hour, the revamped Toyota GT2000 was born.

The original design of the car has been changed somewhat, with the body being reshaped to be more aerodynamic. Under the hood, the car features a 120kW electric motor, which is powered by a 600V/35 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This power pack takes around two weeks to recharge from sunlight but it hasn’t been designed for long journeys – the purpose of the design was to go as fast as possible. Although the news of these changes may leave a bad taste in the mouths of classic car fanatics, the Crazy Car Project have assured us all that the car was an un-driveable wreck before they commenced the overhaul.

Although it may seem like a small detail to a lot of people, those of us in the know understand the difference great nails can make. Whether you’re out on the town or just heading off to work, the perfect nails can finish an outfit beautifully and make you feel fabulously feminine.

If you have already exhausted all the options when it comes to foils, holos, crackles, nail art and stickers, it’s time to try what we think may well be the next big thing. The new nail polish from Bio Sculpture doesn’t just look fantastic on your fingertips; it also works towards giving you better, healthier nails. If there is one drawback to permanently having great looking nails, it’s the damage that constant Shellac-ing, gel nails, polishes and other decorations can do to them. Bio Sculpture will give you all of the beauty with none of the bad bits!

Bio Sculpture’s products are in fact advanced nail treatments. Designed to coat your nails to strengthen and condition them, as well as coming in a range of striking colours, you can’t go wrong with applying these to your nails. The Royal Collection for Spring/Summer 2012 includes six new colours, with subtle radiance shining through a choice of shades. Formulated and named around the Queen’s Jubilee, the varieties available are as follows.

Number 107 Her Majesty: Sparkly gold

We all know that we shouldn’t really eat that pizza, those chips or that sneaky chocolate doughnut in the office last Friday. However, we all also know that eating healthily is easier said than done most of the time! With the winter blues still firmly upon us all and no sunny respite in sight as yet, carbs are where it’s at. Even if you can’t completely cut out the junk, these few ingredients could make a huge difference to how you look and feel.

Coconut Oil – Cooking with coconut oil helps to keep your body working at its optimal level. Packed full of anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties, just three spoons of this oil per day can relieve stress, reduce cholesterol and boost your metabolism.

Pineapple – It might not be your first choice of side dish but having a portion of pineapple with your meat can have great benefits. The fruit contains an enzyme which helps to break down the protein in meat, making it easier for your digestive system to process.

Spices – While totally cutting fatty foods from your diet is quite difficult to achieve, adding a bit of spice can counteract some of the “badness”. Those who eat spices such as black pepper, garlic powder, paprika and oregano as part of their more fatty meals have shown up to 30% lower blood fat levels in recent studies.

Aloe Vera – Already known as a great relief for sunburnt skin, drinking pure aloe vera can also help to sooth and heal your digestive tract.

Cinnamon – The morning coffee is a staple in many people’s routines, even though we know it’s not exactly a healthy option. Here’s some good news for coffee fiends – adding some cinnamon to your drink can curb your appetite, help your body process carbs more slowly and efficiently and lower your blood sugar level.

Fragment retention lamp manufacturers, GlassGuard, have introduced a new CPD module entitled “An Introduction to Fragment Retention Florescent Lights”. Aimed at any professional who works with, or has an interest in, lighting systems, the presentation is available immediately.

The Construction CPD Certification Service, an independent body operating across all professional institutions and societies, has accredited the presentation and awarded it the CPD quality mark. This quality mark is recognised as the symbol of quality assured training material.

The training aims to introduce both Fragment Retention Lamps and IEC 61549 (BS EN 61549) Fragment Retention Lamp Standard. In doing so, it provides a useful guideline and required standard to businesses and organisations relating to where to use fragment retention lamps. The presentation also draws attention to the potential risks and dangers involved in using substandard, non-compliant equipment.

Speaking with regards to the benefits of completing the training, Stewart Damonsing, marketing manager at GlassGuard said, “It is important for architects and specifiers to be aware of fragment retention lamps and the applications. The use of fragment retention lamps in areas such as food production, hotel and catering industries as well as public areas such as schools, leisure centres and hospitals is crucial as the risk of glass contamination and injury from accidental lamp breakage is very high. This CPD presentation reinforces our commitment to the industry. It provides architects and planners with valuable information which will enable them to deliver the right solution to the end user.”

The presentation can be accessed on GlassGuard’s website and on-site training can be arranged by contacting them directly.

As the trend for holidaying at home in the UK grows in popularity as the recession continues, at least one industry has benefiting from the penny-pinching felt by the majority of households. The caravan and motorhome industry is one which has seen a positive side to people cutting down on holidays abroad and is going against the grain by expanding in recent years.

The 2012 Caravan and Motorhome Show in Manchester, which ended last week, again proved the popularity of this type of family holiday, with one manufacturer in particular leaving very satisfied with their results. Swift Caravans have reported more than £4 million in sales during the event alone. This is more than double their previous sales figures.

Touring caravans and motorhomes were the order of the day as the East Yorkshire-based business netted a very healthy average of one million pounds in sales per day of the Caravan and Motorhome Show. Swift Caravans have named their lightweight and reasonably priced tourers as their stars of the show. These tourers accounted for £2.5 million of the £4 million taken during the event. Motorhome sales were also pretty impressive, increasing by 135 per cent to £1.65 million.

Swift Caravans’ Sprite and Sprite Lite ranges were on display at the Manchester event, alongside six brand new models in the Challenger Sport and Sterling Eccles Swift Ranges. Swift Caravans’ Commercial Director, Nick Page, advised that the entire production batch of 2012 models was sold during the 4 day exhibition. “By giving people products that are more cost effective, better designed and in the case of our tourers, lighter and easier to tow with smaller cars, we are seeing some very positive results.”

With everyone feeling the pinch more than ever, it can be hard to stretch to those extras and luxuries such as a family holiday. However, a break need not be out of reach; the UK caravan holiday industry is booming and offers an affordable option for holiday makers.

Although caravanning may not be everyone’s first thought when it comes to planning their ideal holiday, it’s time to shake off those old-fashioned images of rickety caravans and rainy weather. Things have changed a lot over the past few decades and significant investment has been made to enable families to have a great time while “staycationing”; otherwise known as holidaying in the UK.

Some caravan parks have a massive entertainment budget, in excess of over one million pounds in some cases. The Bunn Leisure Complex in Selsey, West Sussex is a triple-award winner and including the title of Holiday Park of the Year at the Annual Beautiful South Tourism Awards 2011. Bunn have extensive plans in place for the next three years to make their park even better, including improved sea defences and the creation of their very own sandy beach.

This is also good news for private static caravan owners such as Saja Holidays, who offer their own caravans for hire at Bunn. Speaking on this topic, Steve Cooper of Saja Holidays said “We looked long and hard at the available market before we invested in a static caravan which we could offer for hire, and Bunn Leisures West Sands holiday village really did tick all the boxes for the right location to site it”. “What this means is that Saja can offer strong value for money holiday breaks with peak season charges of only £400.00 for the week, in the knowledge that our guests know they are getting a fantasic return for their money due to the massive investments Bunn Leisure have made.”
