Employers Liability Insurance provides cover against legal liability for injury or disease to employees which may arise in the course of their employment.
Why should you have Employers Liability Insurance?
Simply put, Employers are required by law to have Employers liability insurance. That should be enough to convince you.
However, apart from the fact that it is required by the Employers Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969, Employers Liability Insurance could provide you with financial protection should one of your employees be unfortunate enough to be injured in the workplace or suffer illness as result of their work whilst in your employ. If you can be proven to be legally liable for their injury or illness then they may be able to bring a compensation claim against you or your business. You will be only too aware through watching the TV news or reading the daily papers that such claims can be exceedingly large.
Employers Liability Insurance will provide compensation in the event of such claims and therefore provides both you and your employees with peace of mind.
Remember Employees Liability Insurance is compulsory and you, or your business, can be fined heavily if you do not hold such insurance.

Will Employees Liability Insurance cost me a lot of money?
The cost of Employees Liability Insurance will be determined by the number of people you employ, what you employ them to do, and the nature of your trade. As you will appreciate there is a higher risk of an accident in some occupations when compared with others. Although it is important for all employers to have Employers Liability Insurance it is all the more important that you ensure you have the correct Employers Liability cover if you are employing people in a trade where accidents may be more likely to occur.
It is also important to note that Employees Liability Insurance can usually only be purchased from most insurers in conjunction with other insurance such as Public Liability or as part of a package, such as a Tradesman’s Policy.
