What is Employers Liability insurance?
Provides the insured with an indemnity should an employee be injured as a result of carrying out the insured’s business. The standard indemnity limit is £10,000,000. This insurance is a legal requirement as set out in an Act of Parliament, regardless of the number of hours worked. There are substantial penalties if cover is not in force for employees who are defined as being any person working for you who is:
- under a contract of service or apprenticeship with you
- a person under a contract of service or apprenticeship with some other employer and who is hired to or borrowed by you
- a labour master or person supplied by him
- a person engaged by a labour only sub-contractor
- a self employed person performing work under a similar degree of control and direction by you as a person under a contract of service or apprenticeship with you
- a driver or operator of hired-in plant
- a trainee or person undergoing work experience
- a voluntary helper
