When our dynamic founder Colin Barnes (pictured above when he was in the Navy as a youngster) first started the business in 1972, his focus was to offer service and insurance advice that was genuine, honest and had the customer’s best interests at heart, with a range of carefully considered insurance products at hand to meet the needs of his customers. And some things never change.

We are genuine, conscientious and friendly people who will provide you with great service, whatever your insurance needs. Our team of experienced advisors will make sure you have reliable insurance cover, so it will be there to support you when you need it. At Lifesure, we’re advocates of continuous learning and development, which ensures our people have the knowledge to hand to be able to help you, with qualifications ranging from IF1 Cert II and the CII Diploma, to ACCA, ACA and AAT for our finance team, plus CIPD qualifications for our People & Performance team. And our Managing Director, Paul Reid is an ACII Chartered broker, which supports our goal in achieving full Chartered broker status.

The Lifesure story

Where it began...

Colin Barnes believed in helping people. Despite growing a business that is now one of the UK’s leading personal lines insurance brokers, Colin wasn’t especially motivated by money. Colin started by knocking on doors, getting to know his customers and always trying to find them a good deal – at the time with life insurance. Soon people were asking if they could insure their cars and homes with him too. So Colin went to London, walked into the offices of the major insurance companies and told them what his customers were looking for. He came away with a new set of policies to offer and he never looked back. A founder to be proud of!

Colin’s passion for customers, for working closely with partners and for supporting and challenging his team of people runs through everything that we do at Lifesure today. Colin sadly passed away in 2017 but we like to think that he lives on in everything we do. We hope we would make him proud.

…and where we’re going

As a long standing, business, we are in a great position to take the DNA of our organisation and apply it to different sectors. So, in early 2020, we launched Barnes Commercial Insurance Broker, named after the very man who began our story all those years ago, and headed up by the directors of Lifesure.

Barnes Commercial Insurance Broker harnesses the group’s proven values to provide a service invested in reinforcing its clients’ resilience and success. Barnes works with small-to-medium enterprises to find the right insurance for their business. The expert team collaborates exclusively with select industries, including scientific research and biotechnology, dentists, doctors, care and nursing homes, healthcare and medical practitioners, accountants, vet surgeries, construction firms and manufacturing organisations.
