Finding a bike rack for a Toyota Alphard can be difficult.
The tailgate spoiler on an Alphard is not designed to bear the weight of a loaded rear door bike rack, which can limit your options in terms of finding something compact, that also allows easy access to the boot.
We’ve found the perfect solution, with the Westfalia Bikelander.
The Bikelander is available in two models: The Classic Towball Mounted Tilting 2 Bicycle Carrier or LED Light Enhancements Towball Mounted Tilting 2 Bicycle Carrier, both of which are used in conjunction with a tow bar.
Compact in size, the Bikelander with LED light enhancements (pictured), weighs 17.3 kg with a load capacity of 60kg and can accommodate bikes with tyre widths of up to 2.75 inches. With the addition of an extension rail – sold separately - it can also support a third bike weighing no more than 20kg.
It’s a sturdy piece of kit that can be mounted quickly with easy to follow set up instructions. Both the rack and the clamps are lockable and removeable, and it has long tension straps for extra security. Getting into the boot is no problem as the rack can easily be tilted with one hand, without having to remove the bikes. It’s ideal for carrying mountain bikes and it’s also compatible with some eMTB models. Sadly it isn’t suitable for bikes with carbon frames.
The great thing about this model is that if it’s not being used to carry bikes, it can offer additional storage capacity when used with the Westfalia transport box, which is also sold separately.
Prices start from £534, for the Bikelander classic and £600 for the LED Light Enhancement. We think this is a great product for both biking and camping trips.
Don’t forget, we can find insurance for Alphards, both converted and unconverted!
